Shame On AC Milan

Tottenham FC recorded one of their greatest victories ever, playing away to European heavyweights AC Milan at the San Siro on Wednesday morning (AEDST), however the game will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. The game was clearly becoming heated with numerous confrontations, yet the referee took very little action, the hostile atmosphere was exacerbated by the crowd who jeered at every call the ref made. I lost count of the number of times a player from the Milanese outfit ran towards the referee, shouting and gesticulating in an unpleasant manner to say the least. Every time Gattuso (AC Milan) was tackled he would begin heckling the player who tackled him, sometimes shaping to grab and strike the player. He even had an altercation with the Assistant Manager of Tottenham Joe Jordan (who is 59!) The referee completely lost control of proceedings by not having the necessary metal (showing enough balls) to not listen to the crowd and control the game, this was highlighted when Mathieu Flamini (AC Milan) lunged in with both feet on Vedran Corluka's (Tottenham) shins and got away with only a yellow card. Corluka appeared in agony and was stretchered off the field, returning later to the bench on crutches. As if the game hadn't provided enough things to talk about, Gattuso decided to resume the argument after the full time whistle, being caught on camera headbutting Joe Jordan before being pulled away by players from both side.

FIFA should have a chat with the NBA and see how good discipline is in their league due to the zero tolerance policy referees have with player's arguing about the calls they make. I believe the NBA have gone too far with players not allowed to show any emotion in response to a call made by the referees, however soccer players are still seen poking and shoving referees, such events should be deemed unacceptable by FIFA and action must be taken to prevent further embarrassment to the World Game by the actions of people like Gattuso.
